Homage to Norman Rockwell's 'The Dugout'

Lisa Saad pays homage to one of the 20th century's most influential artists, American Illustrator Norman Rockwell and his iconic work "The Dugout" through a captivating photographic interpretation.

The Dugout was The Saturday Evening Post's original cover illustration on September 4, 1948.
During the 1948 baseball season, the Chicago Cubs and the White Sox had disappointing performances, ending up at the bottom of their leagues.

Inspired by the atmosphere of collective disappointment depicted in Rockwell's work, Saad meticulously recreates the scene with modern photographic techniques and attention to detail. Each element, from the clothing to the props, is thoughtfully selected. Saad found a vintage uniform maker in America to recreate five uniforms reminiscent of those worn in 1948.

Each family member and friend featured in the image was individually photographed in-studio alongside carefully selected props. The Dugout itself was meticulously constructed by blending physical elements with CGI enhancements and seamlessly integrated using Adobe Photoshop.

Produced in 2008, Saad's tribute results in a poignant snapshot of a bygone era, standing as a testament to the enduring influence of Norman Rockwell's legacy on contemporary artistic expression.
